(CNN) — Jay Carney is stepping down as White House press secretary, President Barack Obama announced on Friday.
Carney said he’d leave in mid June.
He is Obama’s second press secretary during the more than five years of his presidency.
“It’s been an amazing experience,” the former journalist said from the White House briefing room podium.
Obama said that Carney deputy Josh Earnest will step into the role.
