We have been building up to this moment for four years, and tomorrow in Brazil, the World Cup kicks off once again.

Some of the most passionate U.S.A. fans are the American Outlaws.

The Hartford chapter planned to kick up the patriotism to an even louder pitch during the games at Damon’s Tavern on Prospect Avenue.

The group said its membership grew five times in size since the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Perhaps no one appreciates the fans more than those who have actually played in the World Cup, like Jay DeMerit.

He credited the American Outlaws with growing the popularity of U.S. Soccer to what it is today.

“The World Cup really brings everyone together, and that’s the special thing about every four years,” DeMerit said.  “Now in between those four years it’s the chapter’s job to grow without the World Cup spotlight.”

The U.S.A.’s first match is Monday against Ghana.

The American Outlaws will be at Damon’s for all USA World Cup games and the Women’s game we’ll be at Rentschler Field.
