HARTFORD — A 33-year-old man was shot and killed early Wednesday on Vine Street.

Police were notified of a shooting in the area of 26 Vine St. at 2:43 a.m. by the city’s ShotSpotter system. Arriving officers found a man in the street in front of 44 Vine St., Deputy Police Chief Brian Foley said.

The man suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.

His killing is Hartford’s fifth homicide of the year, Foley said. Police have identified the man and are working to notify next of kin. Police said their records indicate he was a resident of a shelter at 75 Main St.

“The section of lower Vine Street where this shooting occurred is vacant and under complete rehab construction,” Foley said. “We are actively looking to locate witnesses and information.”

Major Crimes Division detectives are investigating and anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Andrew Weaver at 860-757-4214 or the Crime Stoppers tip line at 860-722-8477.
