Gas prices are creeping up again, but that doesn’t mean gas stations are pumping out the profits.

Carmine Patrizio, who owns Gator Gas in Clinton, said he makes mere pennies on the gallon, adding up to only a few hundred dollars in profit each day.

Monday, the price for a gallon of regular unleaded was going for $3.769 and Patrizio claimed he gets just 6 cents of that.

However, Patrizio calculated for every gallon of gas he sells, the federal government takes 18 cents, and the state takes 52 cents.

“This station produced over a million dollars of state and federal gasoline tax…just this station alone, and would you believe they didn’t even send me a thank you card,” Patrizio said.

Ideally, Patrizio said, he’d like to make 10 cents to 20 cents on the gallon.
