From the global stage to the local fields, the World Cup is serving up a boost of energy all over the area and, of course, that excitement scores big with kids.

There was a field full of excitement in on the Kingswood-Oxford campus in West Hartford.  K-O is home to the 2-4-1 Sports Academy, where kids put on their Tuesday best —  red, white, and blue — to back team USA. The camp offers a variety of sports, but Tuesday had a special focus on Soccer.

“It’s exciting because for many of them (the campers) they’ve never had this sort of experience,” said Steve Boyle, the camp owner. “It’s fun to see the patriotism too,” Boyle noted.

On every part of the field, kids were happy to voice their support for USA Soccer. “It’s a very big opportunity for the whole team,” said camper Olivia Anderson, a soon to be West Hartford fourth grader.

James Manning, an assistant soccer coach at Western Connecticut and councilor at 2-4-1 said the World Cup has given his sport a kick.

“Kids are sitting and watching, “ Manning Said, “when they go and practice and play for their team they can apply what they see.”
