A 9-year-old in Plainville has raised thousands of dollars for the Make a Wish Foundation.

His annual lemonade stand is an inspiring lesson about helping others.

“This is where all the kids are, and they’re here to help me,” says Nico Fasold.

It’s not just a lemonade stand. It’s a summer refreshment tent compound.

“Nachos, apple fritters, popcorn, cookies … then we added snow cones,” Nico says.

Nico Fasold is the manager, company CEO and drink server.

The proceeds from this sidewalk sale go to the Make a Wish Foundation. Nico learned about Make a Wish five years ago, and every summer since he has made their cause his cause.

“It makes dreams come true for kids who are really sick,” Nico says.

This year the goal is to raise $10,000, and donations were coming early. Some folks didn’t even take a cup, but stopped by just to support Nico’s campaign.

So what does Nico see for himself in the future? Businessman philanthropist, maybe? In the meantime, when business closes for the day, Nico will leave the front yard, where he works, for the backyard.

“Play outside on my playscape,” he says.

Helping those in need gives Nico a warm feeling.

“Some ‘Wish’ kids come by and they’re always like, ‘Thank you for doing this,’ ” Nico says.
