Hartford Healthcare Medical Group recently found that vaccines administered from January 1, 2013 to today may not be fully effective due to storage issues.
Over the last year and a half 5,003 vaccines were given to 3,833 patients at the medical group’s locations in Enfield, South Main/West Hartford, Storrs and Unionville.
The vaccines may have been stored at the wrong temperature for too long of a period of time.
Two-thirds of the vaccines were for influenza, pneumonia and vaccines in the tetanus/pertussis family. The other vaccines were ones commonly administered in doctors’ offices.
The less-effective vaccines cannot hurt patients, but it is recommended that patients who visited the locations mentioned get re-vaccinated to fully prevent disease.
Hartford Healthcare Medical Group is reaching out to each patient who was impacted and will re-vaccinate patients at no charge.
