HARTFORD — When it comes to paying for tolls, it seems some Connecticut drivers are taking the Bay State for a ride.

According to MassDOT, in 2013 Connecticut drivers racked up $1,069,751.34 in unpaid or outstanding tolls. By contrast, Massachusetts drivers owe roughly half that amount.

Officials from MassDOT and CTDOT say there is no “reciprocity” agreement between the two states, which would blacklist violators’ licenses and registration.

But with the possibility of tolls coming to Connecticut in the near future, state leaders hope to implement an agreement to go after the violators and raise revenue for transportation projects.
