Connecticut’s comeback of ospreys has been so strong, the state needs the public to help with bird watching.

The Connecticut Audubon Society  has partnered with the Department Of Energy And Environmental Protection to create “Osprey Nation.”

More than 100 volunteers are monitoring about 250 nests across the state.

While the osprey population is soaring, DEEP’s staff of specialists hasn’t really grown.

“Folks just collecting data on the osprey, that information is critical because there aren’t enough professionals to go out, but you can train people to do it,” Frank Gallo, a Milford birder, said.

A nest in Milford, at the Charles E. Wheeler Wildlife Management Area, successfully raised three fledglings which took flight for the first time Monday.
