Timothy Granata, arrested for the murder of his mother Thursday afternoon, told police “I killed her. I stabbed her,” according to the probable cause statement.

Granata, 22, of Orange,  was arraigned Friday afternoon in Derby Superior Court Bond was set at $2 million. The probable cause statement said a lifeless Claudia Granata, 58, was located on the first floor of the family’s home at 130 Wild Rose Dr.

Timothy Granata’s attorney, Charles Tiernan, told the judge there is a mental health history with his client. Tiernan asked that he be placed in the Garner Correctional Institution in Newtown, while he awaits his next court appearance, August 5, in Milford.

The chief medical examiners office said, “Blunt impact and sharp force injury of head, neck, torso and extremities… classified as a homicide.”

The judge granted this request and ordered that he received any medical treatment necessary between now and his next court date.

Tiernan told the assembled media, outside of the courthouse, that Claudia Granata’s husband, Dr. Attilio Granata, is the one who alerted him to the mental health history with the 22-year-old, who was about to begin his senior year at Lehigh University.

While it remains unclear whether Timothy Granata is supposed to be on medication, he did tell the judge he is experiencing back and joint pain at the present time.
