A Manchester vet is a finalist for America’s Favorite Veterinarian.

Dr. Letrisa Miller is one of 20 finalists chosen by an American Veterinary Medical Foundation review panel. There were more than 700 original nominations.

Miller was nominated by an impressed client who sent in an essay about her dedication. The essay described how Miller traveled with a client’s sick cat to Colorado while he underwent radiation treatment.

“It was an amazing treatment, he recovered nicely and he did very well,” Miller said of the cat.

A press release from Connecticut Feline Medicine and Surgery, LLC, which Dr. Miller started in July 2012, says Miller was picked “because of her nominator’s essay, her community involvement, ethical behavior, passion for the veterinary profession and connection to animals and their owners.”

Dr. Miller is the only finalist from Connecticut, and the only finalist who practices feline medicine exclusively. She said hour-long visits at her practice are common because she is very passionate about every single cat she treats.

“The cat and the person are extremely important,” she said. “We give them our full attention and spend the amount of time that’s needed to get to the bottom of any problem.

Some of Miller’s co-workers at the practice are lobbying hard for her to win the title of top vet in America.

We’re so honored, and all the clients are just so excited for her,” said Melissa Johnson, a receptionist and veterinarian technician at the clinic. “They call, they come in and say they voted for her. They’re voting every day, they’re telling all their friends about her.”

The public can vote daily for their favorite veterinarian at americasfavoriteveterinarian.org through September 1.
