America’s oldest commercial vessel is back in Connecticut following a voyage back in time.

The Charles W. Morgan is currently docked in New London after about a month of sailing off Cape Cod.

History repeated itself as the historic whaling ship, fully restored, was once again among the ocean giants at Stellwagen Bank.

However, instead of hunting whales, the Morgan went whale watching.

The voyage was a performance test to see what the old ship could do.

“If I’m going, doing about six knots, I could stop in two boat lengths,” the Morgan’s skipper, Captain Kip Files, said.  “That is remarkable, think about it, I don’t have reverse.”

The Charles W. Morgan is due to return home to Mystic Seaport next Wednesday, weather permitting.
