An employee of the Bucks Hill Market in Waterbury, who was shot late Sunday morning during a robbery, is paralyzed from the neck down, according to information released during Monday’s arraignment of the suspect
Tony Dupre, 19, of Waterbury was charged with criminal attempt at murder, first-degree robbery, larceny and interfering with an officer. Bond was set at $1 million by Judge Ingrid Moll, who cited the serious, possibly life threatening, injury sustained by the 61 year old victim, whose name has not been released by police.
The employee, who was shot in the left side of the neck Sunday morning, had been sweeping the store while the suspect was placing items on the counter. According to the police report, the suspect shot him once without warning or asking the employee for anything
The victim was treated at Waterbury Hospital before being transferred to Hartford Hospital.
Officers spotted Dupre, who has no previous arrests, in the area of Walnut and Cherry Streets and apprehended him after a short foot chase.
State police told Waterbury police that Dupre did not have a permit for the gun.
Dupre is due back in court on August 13.
