UConn’s championship basketball coach, Kevin Ollie, is used to working with the best athletes in the world. But today, he took some swings to support sports for people with physical challenges.

The proceeds from the 28th annual Kevin Ollie Charity Golf Classic, played at the Glastonbury Hills Country Club, will benefit the Communitas Tolland Fund. The fund provides funding to individuals and teams with individuals who have physical disabilities and are looking for more recreation, or who are advanced enough to make a run at becoming a paralympian.

Ollie attached his name to the tournament several years ago, but he has been involved since 1998 after his former UConn basketball teammate, Steve Emt, was paralyzed in a car accident and needed funding for a special truck and a racing chair so he could complete in marathons.

Over 220 golfers participated today. Tonight, at a post tournament dinner, John Tartaglio, the only person ever to complete a marathon without legs, will be among the honorees.
