A Connecticut fire crew is coming to the rescue.

Twenty firefighters left early Tuesday morning to northern California to help fight raging wildfires. The crews will be deployed for up to two weeks.

They left in waves to Bradley Airport and will fly into Sacramento. Once in California, they will be dispersed to various areas.

Two wildfires are threatening hundreds of structures and have already burned eight homes.

This is the first time this year a Connecticut fire crew has been deployed to assist in fighting wildfires.

They say safety is the number one priority.

"Fires are unpredictable you can get steep terrain and there's snakes and poison oak and the possibility of landslides, earthquakes, everything that California normally has," said Kate Knight, a firefighter who is heading out.

The firefighters are some of the best in the state.  They have completed rigorous training and participate in an annual renewal course to fight forest or wildfires.
