Public comment at Norwalk's Board of Education meeting on Tuesday was peppered with pointed questions towards two board members accused of making racist statements and/or actions.

At least three members on the board have said Chairman Mike Lyons treats them differently because of their skin color, according to board member Shirley Mosby who filed a complaint with Norwalk's NAACP last month.

"It's questions, even when you ask for information or ask to get involved in different things -- we're always getting pushed back to the end," Mosby told FOX CT. "Us colored, you know, people of color, we have a concern or something, we get attacked."

Lyons was in the hot seat at City Hall on Tuesday night.

"Has anything been done about this? Do you plan to make a public statement about this?" said Darnell Crosland, Norwalk's NAACP president, in front of the standing-room only crowd.

Board member Jack Chiaramonte was also taking heat for a comment he made in the online newspaper The Hour.

He told a reporter "You heard the story of the boy who cried wolf? This is the story of the girl who cried black."

Chiaramonte told FOX CT he sees nothing wrong with that comment. He doesn't feel it is offensive.

Gwen Samuel, a member of the Connecticut Parents Union, disagrees.

"You have African American children in schools, Hispanic, and the fact that they think nothing is wrong with that statement means there's something wrong with the Board," Samuel said.

At a brief news conference ahead of the BOE meeting,  Samuel and Norwalk community members demanded Chiaramonte and Lyons quit.

Both men told FOX CT off-camera that they feel they are being attacked and said that Mosby and others are lying.

"The proof is there and if we ever have to go to a court of law, believe me, it's there," said Mosby when asked for her response to that accusation.

No action was taken in relation to the allegations of racism at Tuesday's meeting, but Crosland said he, Norwalk's mayor, Chiaramonte and Lyons are expected to discuss the issue together soon.
