In July two emaciated horses were seized from a farm in Redding, and today their owner was charged with animal cruelty.

Lisa Lind-Larsen, 75, was charged with two counts of cruelty to animals, one count for each horse. State animal control officers from the Department of Agriculture took the two mustangs into custody on July 10.

Lind-Larsen had previously been investigated for abusing her horses, but she resolved the problem in 2011.

The mustangs had been living in unsanitary stalls covered in manure, and they were very underweight. They also needed immediate veterinary and dental care, according to a press release from the Department of Agriculture.

A visitor to Lind-Larsen’s farm sent in photos of Chinook and Cheyenne, the horses, to the department.

Lind-Larsen is due in court on August 20. The horses are at the Large Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Facility in Niantic.
