Governor Dannel Malloy will visit New Britain schools at noon Thursday to see the progress that's been made since the district joined the state’s Alliance District program.

Gov.  Malloy will meet with school officials and Commission Stefan Pryor at  Pulaski Middle School in New Britain.

The state has been pumping money into under-performing schools for a couple of years, and ahead of the start of the new school year, Malloy is expected to make an announcement for more funding to struggling schools.

Back in 2012, Malloy signed an education reform package into law and created the Alliance District program.  The program was created to support and turnaround 28 schools across ten districts for the 2014-15 school year.  Within the funding, the state said it's giving $6.6 million in grants to poor performing schools in a long list of towns. That includes grants and entire high school redesigns. New Britain, New Haven, and Derby have high schools that will get a redesign.

Most recently, in August, the state gave $1.7 million to improve performance at six New Britain schools. Pulaski Middle is one of the schools that will get $100,000 thousand from that.
