Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory, won his fourth Emmy for Best Actor in a Comedy at the 2014 Emmy Awards on Monday night.

Nominated for the seventh time for his work on TBBT, Parsons beat out Louis C.K. from Louie, Matt LeBlanc from Episodes, William H. Macy from Shameless, Don Cheadle from House of Lies, and Ricky Gervais from Derek.

In his speech, Parsons acknowledged someone that he had never thanked before, despite this being his fourth trip to the podium:

“I want to thank somebody I’ve never thanked before, largely because he passed away shortly before this craziness started, even though I think he was able to see it in his own way,” Parsons said, “But my father, Mickey Parsons, he encouraged me to be an actor. He never discouraged me to be an actor, and in a career that hinges so much on confidence a lot of the time, that was a really great gift.”

In addition to his success on The Big Bang Theory, Jim Parsons is also up for Best Supporting Actor in a TV movie or miniseries, for his work in HBO’s The Normal Heart.
