Bridgeport has found a delicious way to encourage residents to install smoke alarms in their homes.

The Bridgeport Fire Department and Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch have partnered with Domino’s Pizza for the city’s free smoke alarm program, SafeAsleep.

On Thursday, Aug. 28, firefighters will deliver pizzas ordered from Domino’s 2308 Main St. location in Bridgeport. If the customer can show the firefighter that he or she has working smoke detectors in his or her home then the order is free. If the customer does not have working smoke detectors then the fire department will install free smoke detectors and the customer’s order will still be free.

The city’s partnership with the non-profit organization Regional Youth Adult Social Action Partnership (RYASAP) has helped install more than 42,000 free smoke detectors in homes throughout Bridgeport over the last 10 years.

Mayor Finch said, “We know of at least 200 cases where people were alerted to a fire in their homes by smoke detectors provided and installed by the city.”
