Guns Found Hidden at Hamden Playground
Hamden Police are investigating after two guns were found hidden near a child care center playground Sunday night.
Police had received information that guns were hidden near the playground at the Keefe Community Center at 11 Pine Street. After searching, officers found a .22 caliber and 9mm handgun.
Earlier in the evening, Hamden Police arrested 24-year-old Russell Gillian of New Haven. Police said that Gillian had a fully-loaded .357 Magnum handgun hidden in the engine compartment of a car he was driving. The arrest came after police received information that a gun would be hidden inside the engine of a car. Gillian, a convicted felon, is charged with criminal possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle. Gillian was released after posting $100,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Meriden Court on September 5.
Police have not said if Gillian is connected to the gun found at the Keefe Center and are still investigating.
