Pelto Enters Race For Governor, Some Democrats Not Too Pleased

One less contender remains in Connecticut’s gubernatorial race.

The joint Jonathan Pelto and Ebony Murphy ticket failed to get the 7,500 signatures necessary to appear on the ballot this November.

According to Secretary of the State Denise Merrill, Pelto received 4,318 signatures by the Aug. 6 deadline to file a petition. Pelto’s campaign was associated with the education & democracy party.

Pelto released a statement on behalf of his campaign.

“We are, of course, deeply disappointed that we were unable to collect a sufficient number of signatures to qualify as third party candidates for governor and lt. governor.  While we failed to achieve that critical goal, we’re hopeful that our effort has and will continue to spur a more serious discussion about the critically important issues facing Connecticut. “

Another third party candidate, Joe Visconti, did get the 7,500 required signatures to appear on the ballot this fall.

Pelto congratulated him, saying, “Joe has shown that the people can change the incumbency parties and shake up the establishment. I wish him continued success as he speaks out on the issues he is so passionate about.”
