Friday night was expected to have some of the worst traffic for the weekend, according to AAA. The worst section was expected to be 1-84 west in downtown Hartford.

State Police are cracking down on motor vehicle laws with the prediction that there will be more travelers than last year.

We will have updated numbers for you all weekend on the number of tickets issued for DUI, speeding, seat belts, cell phones and other dangerous driving, as well as statistics on the number of accidents, injuries and fatalities. In 2013 there were 1513 speeding tickets issued, 231 for seat belt violations, 3513 for other traffic violations, 50 DUIs, 259 accidents, 44 accidents with an injury and three fatalities.

Here are the numbers as of Sunday at 12:30 p.m:

  • Speeding tickets: 1132
  • Seat belt violations: 116
  • Hazardous moving violations, including use of cellphones: 2487
  • Driving under the influence: 27
  • Accidents: 210
  • Accidents with an injury: 23
  • Fatalities from accidents: 0

The state has received funds from the federal government to enforce an anti-speeding campaign on secondary and back roads this weekend. This will mainly help smaller police departments enforce safety on rural roads.

As for the price of a gallon of gas--the average in the state for Friday was $3.74, down $0.18 from 2013.
