Newtown continued its Labor Day Parade tradition this year with fanfare and celebration.

The Newtown High School band performed, and many political leaders participated. Gov. Dan Malloy, Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Sen. Chris Murphy and Tom Foley, the Republican gubernatorial candidate, all walked in the parade.

Today is considered the unofficial kick-off to election season.

The parade has been occurring annually since 1962, and it is now the biggest Labor Day Parade in the state.

One resident, Robert Grossman, says he's been to every parade the town has had because "it brings the community together as one."
