A Connecticut State Trooper conducting a prisoner transport crashed on I-91 in Hartford on Friday, Sept. 5.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. on the northbound side of the highway near exit 33.

The trooper was transporting Chad Nadeau, 24, to the Hartford Correctional Center at the time of the incident.  According to State Police, Nadeau was able to free himself of one handcuff and physically force the vehicle to crash into the center median barrier.

Nadeau then exited the vehicle and fled on foot to a nearby wooded area. Hartford Police caught Nadeau a short time after.

Both Nadeau and the trooper suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. Nadeau is charged with escape from custody, interfering with an officer, and assault of public safety personnel.

He appeared in court Monday, Sept. 8. His case was continued until Oct. 6. He is being held on $350,000 bond.
