The Milford Department of Recreation is currently looking into instituting a no smoking policy at city parks, beaches and public events.

"It's mostly health motivated," said Paul Piscitelli, Milford's director of recreation. "Our programs at the Rec department promote health and wellness, and smoking and tobacco use are contradictory to those ideals, so it kind of fits together very well with what we're trying to accomplish."

Piscitelli says the city's health department is on board with the idea, which originally came after the recreation department received complaints about excessive second-hand smoke at the city's little league fields.

A public hearing is planned for Wednesday on the topic at the department's monthly meeting. It will be at the Parsons Government Center in Milford at 7:30 p.m.
