Police are investigating a home invasion that occurred in the Moosup section of Plainfield Tuesday night that they say appears to have been staged.
Police say they were called to a home on Juniper Lane around 8:15 p.m.
The victim said she was home with a 2-year-old when she heard someone breaking into the home. When police arrived they found several open doors and a bedroom window smashed. The home was also ransacked. Officers found the child and woman inside the home unharmed.
During the course of the investigation Plainfield Police determined that this was a staged incident. The adult who was charged with caring for the child planted items of evidence, smashed the windows herself and ransacked the home to make look like a break-in.
The Plainfield Police K9 unit was called in to help search for the suspect or suspects but did not find anyone. But, police say a suspect has been identified and police anticipates a warrant for their arrest.
Police say they are continuing to investigate and expect to make an arrest in the case.
