After months of specialized care from Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Team, four young Harbor Seal Pups were released into the wild Friday afternoon at Charlestown Breachway in Charlestown, RI.
Bellatrix, Leo, Comet and Phoenix made their way through the surf after being released around 10 a.m., according to the aquarium.
“An event like this one truly exemplifies what it is Mystic Aquarium stands to embody,” said Assistant Stranding Coordinator, Walter “Skip” Graf, who oversaw the release. “Through research done at the aquarium and in the field, we hope to better understand the animals that make-up the ocean environment, and by directly impacting individuals within that environment to benefit the overall population, like we’re doing with our rescue and rehabilitation efforts.”
Last month, four other seal pups were also released after being rehabilitated from Mystic Aquarium.
