Community Health Center Inc. serves 140 thousand patients at over 200 care sites around the state of Connecticut. The New Horizon’s Domestic Violence shelter and intervention programs are saving lives – and have been for some 30 years.

WHAT:          New Horizons Domestic Violence Services (a program of Community Health Center, Inc.) has teamed up with 9Round Kickbox Fitness of Middletown to host a unique event that will not only raise awareness and funding for domestic violence, but will also get participants working up a sweat and learning self-defense.

WHEN:         October 4, 2014, 11am-2:00pm

WHERE:        9Round 30 Minute Kickbox Fitness, 779 Newfield Street, Middletown, CT

WHY:             Domestic Violence Awareness Month is observed in October and with the recent media attention given to domestic violence; this is a timely event that will hopefully shed light on this issue at a local level. Although there has been substantial progress in reducing domestic violence, one in four women and one in seven men in the United States still suffer serious physical violence at the hands of an intimate partner at least once during their lifetimes. Every day, three women lose their lives in this country as a result of domestic violence. Millions of Americans live in daily, silent fear within their own homes.

The event is open to the public; you do not have to be a member of 9Round to participate. Participants are required to make a minimum donation of a $1 per round ($9 total). Participants can raise additional money by seeking out sponsors who are willing to “pledge-per-round”. Pledge forms can be picked up at 9Rounds Middletown or downloaded at http://www.chc1.com/News/Events.html. All donations benefit New Horizons’ programs and its shelter. A portion of each new membership purchased on the day of the event will also be donated by 9Rounds Middletown.
