Westport Swim Coach Sentenced To 8 Years For Sexually Assaulting Young Girls
The former swim coach at Staples High School in Westport will spend the next eight years in prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting two Fairfield girls over three years.
Jeffrey Schare, 44, of Fairfield, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of risk of injury to a minor and one count of fourth-degree sexual assault. He initially turned himself in for the charges on Dec. 17, 2012, according to the Fairfield Police Department.
In addition to his eight-year sentence, Schare must also register as a sex offender and stay away from children.
Court documents say the two girls were sexually assaulted from 2006 through 2012, at which point Schare was arrested. The allegations in the court documents state the minors suffered “severe physical and emotional harm as a result” of the abuse.
Schare coached the boys swimming and diving teams for seven years. He was also a math teacher at the high school.
On his private Twitter page Schare’s biography says he has three children of his own.
