A Hartford Hero Is Making It Big Nationally

There are many heroes out there, but CNN tries to weed out the best of the best for its annual Top Ten CNN Heroes.

Anderson Cooper revealed the 2014 honorees last week, and one of the ten was from Hartford.

Patricia Kelly helps motivate at-risk children in Hartford by providing horseback riding lessons and by teaching animal science to more than 300 young people each year. The Hartford resident does this through her nonprofit, Ebony Horsewomen.

Patricia Kelly 2As a reward for being named to CNN’s top ten, Kelly will receive a $25,000 grant from CNN Worldwide, and she’ll have the opportunity to win even more.

Now that CNN has picked its top 10 heroes, fans will have the chance to vote for the “Hero of the Year.” The winner, who will be announced at the CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute event hosted by Anderson Cooper on Dec. 7, will receive an additional $100,000 grant.
