A victim reported an unusual robbery to the Wesleyan Public Safety department.

The victim told officers that on Oct. 4 a person had contacted him on Facebook saying they had his iPod and MacBook Air. The suspect tried to negotiate giving the victim back his iPod and a broken HP computer in exchange for the victim’s pass code on the MacBook Air.

The victim and suspect arranged to meet at Russell Library.

Officers from the Middletown Police Department were nearby as the victim met Kenneth Hofler, who had been going by a pseudonym on Facebook. Police found the iPod and MacBook Air in Hofler’s possession and arrested him on Oct. 6.

Hofler is charged with larceny for having the stolen items, which were valued at $1,060. He is being held on a $10,000 bond and will appear in court on Oct. 20.
