Veronica Vinci spent Wednesday hanging out on a grassy field for a reason.
"It really hits home when it affects you like this, its personal," she said.
She's talking about breast cancer and it runs in her family.
But she wasn't alone on that grassy field. She's one of 150 hospital employees, construction workers, and others, creating something pink out of hard hats.
I’ve got no problem wearing it – I’d wear it all year long," Kevin Stokes of Tucker Mechanical said.
The facts about breast cancer are sobering. It's the leading malignant affecting women, second leading of cancer related deaths, according to the Smilow Cancer Hospital. But awareness is helping to keep the fight against breast cancer strong.
Which is why the hard-hat wearers united today to create a ribbon for EMCOR's campaign which says "protect yourself, get screened today!"
"You get checked, you raise awareness – it’s what you have to do," said Veronica Vinci of Tucket Mechanical.
