Manchester Conn. - The young mother from East Hartford who police say put her dead newborn in a trash can appeared in Manchester Superior court Friday.
The infant was discovered back in August and police have been reviewing the details since then.
They've charged Geralyz Sotomayor Cruz with manslaughter.
Sotomayor-Cruz was held on $500,000 bond. She’ll be back in court on Oct 28th.
Police said, in August Cruz went to Connecticut Children's Medical Center to get medical care and doctors realized she had very recently delivered, but she had no baby with her. That raised red flags and police went to her home on Tolland Street in East Hartford.
They found the body of a newborn boy in a garbage can in the driveway.
It's taken them these past months to process this case and look into the matter from all angles. The arrest was made Thursday.
Police haven't released the cause of death.
