There are still more questions than answers following the killing of a Hamden man in his home. But, police say they are looking into 56 year old Larry Dildy’s past for clues on his killer.
Homicides in Hamden? Not in this neighborhood.
“I've got little sisters that live up the street and go to this school,” said Tim Wallker, who lives near Dildy, but did not know the victim. “It's just crazy how people act nowadays. Lock your doors and make sure you don't get involved in anything dirty.”
However, Hamden cops aren't saying whether they think a dirty deal gone bad resulted in the death of Dildy, who had several drug convictions. This incident apparently unfolded following a knock at the front door of Dildy’s Circular Avenue home.
“An individual, described as a white male, entered his residence and, at this point we are uncertain whether it was forcible or not,” said Captain Ronald Smith of the Hamden Police Department.
Just after noontime on Sunday, cops say a verbal argument ensued and then there was a physical confrontation.
“At this point, it appears that Mr. Dildy was shot and possibly stabbed,” said Smith.
Among several people in the home, at the time of the altercation, was an unidentified female relative, who started hitting the suspect with a broomstick.
“The attacker subsequently fled through the rear of the residence,” said Smith.
Circular Avenue is a fairly well traveled road. So, it's hard for some to believe that, in broad daylight, nobody saw anyone rushing out of this home.
“Running out or something, there's nowhere to go,” said Jason Reid, who lives near the crime scene. “They should have been seen, unless they hopped in the car right away.”
Police won’t say whether they recovered any weapons, but did note they attempted to speak with Dildy, who died in surgery at 3:30 Sunday afternoon, at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
And, with the recent home invasions in Hamden, residents are on edge. But, Captain Smith noted that Hamden police have a prime suspect, for whom they are processing arrest warrant applications, who is presently in jail.
