HAMDEN - Police released more details on a homicide that occurred Sunday.
Police said they are looking for a white male, who knocked on the second floor apartment door at 397 Circular Ave.
A short time after, an argument ensued and they said Larry Dildy, 56, was shot and possibly stabbed. Police are unsure whether it was forcible entry or whether Dildy invited the person in.
A relative of Dildy’s started hitting the suspect with a broom stick and the suspect ran out the back door.
Police say there were several people at home, but they declined to identify the relative with the broom, for her safety.
Police report they originally responded to the scene for a dispute but that quickly escalated into a shooting.
Dildy was rushed to Yale-New Haven where he died while in surgery.
Those who knew Dildy say he lived a seemingly normal life.
"I bumped into him at the grocery store. He's the common, nice guy to me that I knew back in school," said Rev. James Newman of New Freedom Baptist Church.
Neighbors said Dildy lived inside the apartment with his wife.
If you have any information on the shooting you are asked to contact the Hamden Police Department.
