When she became Hartford's new Superintendent of Schools back in July, Dr. Beth Schiavino-Narvaez vowed to hit the ground "learning."  That vow included convening a 12 member transition team to learn what the biggest needs are in the school district.

After a three-and-a-half month study, the team delivered a Transition Report, focusing on several areas.

The report discusses transforming the district's Central Office to communicate better within the school system and to continue the growth and development of workers in the system.

There are also calls for encouraging more parental involvement and community engagement, as well as giving the district's best educators incentives to want to stay in Hartford.

The district  also recognizes that not all students have an equal opportunity to go to better performing schools...that chronic absenteeism and student suspensions are obstacles to growth.

"We've already begun to organize in terms of our central office and our school partnerships and articulating the practices that we need to differentiate our support and provide more to those who need more from us," Dr. Schiavino-Narvaez said.
