The Hartford Courant has uncovered new information about Sandy Hook school shooter, Adam Lanza.
Courant reporters Josh Kovner and Alaine Griffin have answered many questions about Lanza’s mental state– and now they have learned experts at Yale’s Child Study Center were evaluating Lanza.
The problem is Adam Lanza’s evaluation was never shared with his high school. If there were indicators in the report that Lanza was violent– school officials weren’t aware of that.
Adam Lanza was 20 years old when he killed his victims and himself — his motive for the shooting spree at the Sandy Hook School is still misunderstood, debated and the subject of review, but before he started at Newtown’s high school he was interviewed by Yale’s Child Study Center. As multiple Sandy Hook inquiries are still in progress– investigators have discovered a lack of communication and information sharing about Lanza. It’s not clear what the Yale analysts concluded — but what is clear is that Newtown’s school system was unaware. Adam did not finish high school– he did receive his GED, and tried college for a year at Western Connecticut State University. The extent of Lanza’s mental and emotional problems, his potential for violence, never fully realized before the day it all went so horribly wrong: December 14, 2012.
The State Office of the Child Advocate and the Governor’s Sandy Hook advisory panel continue to look into these matters of mental health. The panel meets again Friday in Hartford.
