NEW BRITAIN–Men have been making a difference at Central Connecticut State University for five years now.
The “Men Make a Difference” event is co-sponsored with the Interval House, a non-profit charity that offers services like a 24-hour hotline, counseling and shelter to help break the cycle of family and domestic partner abuse. Other sponsors include U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, who co-founded “Men Make a Difference, Men Against Domestic Violence,” experts in domestic violence, and college leaders like Howie Dickenman, the basketball coach at CCSU, and Warde Manuel, the director of athletics at UConn. The event is geared towards talking to men about how they can help fight the cycle of domestic violence.
“Shining a light, providing positive role models, as you are doing, is a tremendously meaningful contribution, and not only are you on the right side of history, but you’re helping to change history,” said Blumenthal.
Besides being the fifth anniversary of this event, October is also domestic violence awareness month, increasing the significance of the panel.
