Police arrest Hartford man, charge him with murder of ex-girlfriend
HARTFORD– Police have made an arrest after they discovered a woman was killed in her apartment Tuesday.
According to Hartford Police, 45 year old Luz Nieves was stabbed to death in her second floor apartment. Nieves was an employee at Travelers Insurance and when her coworkers realized she didn’t come to work Tuesday, and that was out of character, they called police.
Police found her body lifeless on the floor with several stab wounds in her torso and neck. Police ruled this a homicide and arrested 40 year old Alex Baez-Franqui of Hartford, charging him with murder.
Police said that Baez- Franqui is Nieves’ ex-boyfriend, and a convicted felon. He has been arrested 13 times in Hartford alone for many cases on multiple charges, and according to Deputy Chief Brian Foley he has “violence in his past.”
He is expected in Hartford Superior Court on Thursday. Right now, police said he is being held on $1 million bond.
