WESTPORT – Police arrested a Mansfield man on charges he stole an ornamental bird cage holding gift cards from a wedding reception.

Frank A. Burnett, 30 of Mansfield, was arrested in connection with the incident at The Inn at Longshore in Westport last month.

Police said on Oct. 11, a suspect entered the reception pretending to be a guest and stole the ornamental bird cage which was being used to collect congratulatory cards containing checks and cash for the newlyweds. The theft was captured on video  and showed him fleeing with the cage filled with envelopes. Police said he escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash and checks.
