There is a recall for some of the toys that come in Happy Meals.
The Hello Kitty Birthday Lollipop whistle has components that can detach, causing a potential choking hazard to young children, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The company has issued a voluntary recall in the U.S. and Canada for the product after two children coughed out pieces of the whistle. Parents can return the whistle at a McDonald’s restaurant, and the whistle can be detached from the figurine for children who want to keep that part. Local restaurants will exchange the toy for another and are offering either a yogurt tube or a bag of apple slices for the inconvenience.
McDonald’s says initially 2.5 million whistles were made, but since they hav eonly been out since Oct. 31 most haven’t been handed out yet. The company has recovered 1.6 million whistles, or about 70 percent,
