DANBURY - A reward is being offered after a young woman was hit and killed by a vehicle just after midnight Saturday.

Rachel Sack, 23, was struck in the area of South Street and Great Pasture Road.

"It's devastating to lose an employee and lose somebody who was beloved by all the staff and we're angry. We want to find out who did this to her," said Cynthia Roy, President of Regional Hospice and Home Care, where Sack was a hospice nurse.

Witnesses saw the victim in the middle of the roadway and stopped to aid her. She was transported to Danbury Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Witnesses tell police that they saw a dark-colored SUV flee the scene.

"When we first heard the news, there was such disbelief that such a young beautiful person could be struck down at such an important time in her life with so much ahead of her," said Robin Viklund, Nursing Director at Regional Hospice and Home Care. "She was giving so much to this world and this community."

Sack was also the mother of a nine week old child. Her friends, family, and co-workers have established a scholarship fund in the child's name.

Anyone with information is urged to call Danbury Police at (203)-797-2157.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Jackson Dudow Education Fund, The Union Saving Bank, 226 Main Street, Danbury, CT, 06810
