WATERBURY (AP) — A judge has sentenced a 25-year-old woman to two years in prison on a manslaughter conviction after she caused an accident while texting that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.
The Republican-American reports that Stephanie Clavell was sentenced Monday in Waterbury Superior Court in connection with the June 2013 accident in Wolcott that killed 53-year-old Terrence Doyle.
Clavell told Doyle’s family she is truly sorry for their loss.
As part of a deal, she pleaded guilty in August to second-degree manslaughter. She faced up to four years in prison, but her lawyer argued in favor of the shorter term.
Doyle wasn’t wearing a helmet. He sustained a brain injury, compound fracture of his leg and a fractured hip. He died three days later.
