DANBURY – Family and friends are remembering a young woman who was hit and killed by a car midnight Saturday.
Rachel Sack, 23, was a mother to a 9-week-old son, Jackson, and a hospice nurse for Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western Connecticut. Her best friend, Stephanie Ewud, described the Bethel woman as energetic and loving.
"She's just the most incredible human being you every could have met. And I say that with a smile on my face because I'm just remembering her for the good things," Ewud told Fox CT.
On Tuesday, Danbury police said they were reviewing leads, witness statements and video evidence in the case.
Sack was struck in the area of South Street and Great Pasture Road on the Danbury-Bethel town line. Witnesses saw the victim in the middle of the roadway and stopped to aid her. She was transported to Danbury Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Witnesses told police that they saw a dark-colored SUV flee the scene.
“When we first heard the news, there was such disbelief that such a young beautiful person could be struck down at such an important time in her life with so much ahead of her,” said Robin Viklund, nursing director at Regional Hospice and Home Care. “She was giving so much to this world and this community.”

Sack's wake will be held tomorrow at the Church of St. Mary in Bethel. Her funeral will be held on Thursday at the same location. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a scholarship fund for her son,
