BRIDGEPORT- A man is facing several felony charges after he was arrested for reportedly crashing his vehicle into a police cruiser on Saturday morning.
Authorities responded to Putnam Street on a report of a domestic dispute around 9:30 a.m. Police say the suspect, identified as 47 year old Michael Bailey, reportedly left the scene before officers arrived.
According to a release from the department, officer Rafael Duran circled the block and found the suspect swerving into oncoming lanes in the roadway. Officer Duran then pulled off to the side of the road and that’s when Bailey reportedly swerved and hit the police cruiser.
Police say Bailey fled the scene on foot and was taken into custody in a back yard on Berkshire Avenue following a brief foot chase.
Authorities say officer Duran had to be extricated from his police cruiser by the fire department and was taken to the hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Bailey has been charged with an assault on a police officer, second degree assault, and interfering with police.
