Lockdown at daycare lifted, search continues for bank robbery suspect in Vernon
VERNON – The First Niagra Bank on Hartford Turnpike was robbed just after 9 a.m. Monday.
The YMCA daycare on the turnpike was on lock-down as a precaution, but that lock down has since been lifted.
Police are still searching for the suspect, who is described as a white male, approximately five-foot-ten who was last seen wearing a baseball hatt with a tan brim, a dark colored hoodie, a dark colored blue waist length Carhartt brand jacket, sunglasses with yellow-tinted lenses and blue jeans.
Police say the suspect entered the bank and demanded money from a teller, and then fled on foot with an undetermined amount of money. He headed north across Route 30 toward the vacant former Bennigan’s Restaurant.
