HARTFORD - A special day Saturday, as a landmark church became complete two years after winds from Sandy destroyed its steeple.
Crews were on hand at the South Church on Main Street to place the steeple back on top of the church.
The iconic crown was heavily damaged when Sandy ripped through the region.
The church's pastor said marked a symbolic milestone for his congregation.
Adam Soderberg, pastor of the South Church Of Hartford said, “I feel like they must have felt in 1884.. just really blessed to have our meeting house back in one piece, so we can continue to serve the community of Hartford.”
The South Church is one of the oldest churches in the United States and the third oldest building in Hartford.
It’s also on the National Register Of Historic Places.
