CHINA- A Chinese hospital is offering men the opportunity to experience what the pain of childbirth is like, after several new moms complained that they got little sympathy from their partners. According to The Guardian, free sessions are offered twice a week at Aima maternity hospital in the Shandong province. Approximately 100 men have signed up, most are fathers-to-be, but some are “thrill seekers.”
In the simulations, pads are attached to a device that are placed above the abdomen send electric shocks and induces pain. The test subject writhes in agony as a nurse slowly increases the intensity on a scale of one to 10.
One father-to-be that was brave enough to test out the torture device said “I felt like my heart and lungs were being ripped apart.” He made it to level seven before frantically waving to the nurse to stop.
The on duty nurse believes that these simulations could never really mimic actual childbirth, but hope that the obvious discomfort they are experiencing well help men to be more loving and attentive to their partners. Several participants in the sessions said their view of childbirth have drastically changed.
