New Haven firefighter stabbed while breaking up fight
NEW HAVEN–An official confirms to Fox CT that a firefighter was hurt while trying to breakup a scuffle between two people fighting over a cell phone on Friday.
At 4:42 p.m. officers were sent to Filmore Street to investigate a disturbance. When they arrived, they learned a woman had been walking home from Ferry Street when she realized she was being followed by a man and a woman. The couple told the victim they were homeless and asked to use her phone.
The victim let them use her phone, but realized the couple intended to keep the phone and confronted them. The male suspect stabbed the victim’s hand.
An off-duty New Haven firefighter saw the altercation and tried to intervene. During the interaction his hand was cut as well, but both his and the other victim’s injuries were reported to be minor.
Police arrested Radames Rivera, 19, and Brittany Estep, 22. Both were charged with the commission of assault, robbery and larceny.
